How to Time Track and Report

Effective job management means you’ve got all your ducks in a row and are on a course towards improvement.One way to know everything is in order is through time tracking. By tracking your time, you have a better view of what’s going on and where your man hours are being spent.JobNimbus construction management software allows you to track time spent on tasks. This can be used to track the amount of time an employee works on a certain task, to get an overall picture of how much time was spent on a job, and to find out how your actual time spent compares to the time you originally estimated.

Getting Started with Time Tracking in JobNimbus

Enabling Time Tracking

Time tracking is an optional feature that can be turned on or off for your entire account.To turn the time tracking feature on, go toAccount Settingsand select theFeaturestab. Then, click theEnablebutton.

Estimating Time

When creating a task, you can set an estimate for the amount of time you expect to spend on this task. Enter the time estimate when adding or editing the task by typing a value in theTime Estimatefield of the Add/Edit Task popup.Once an estimate is added to a task, the task displays the estimated amount of time and displays a progress bar. As time is logged (see below), the progress bar will show how close you are to completing this task according to the estimated time set.

Time Shorthand

If you just enter a number into the time estimated or logged, it will be treated as minutes. Enabling Time Tracking

You can log time on a task using theLog Timeoption in the task’s action menu.This opens the time logging dialog where you can specify the user that performed the work, the amount of time to log, the date when the work was done, and an optional description for any notes about the work.FieldFor User– The user that did the time.Time Spent– The amount of time to log.Started– The date and time when the time being logged was started.Description– A description of what was done during this time.Click theLog Timebutton to log this time.

Time Logged on Tasks

When time is logged against a task, the task’s progress bar is updated to show the amount logged and what remaining percentage is left (based on the estimate) to complete the task.If you click on the task name, you are taken to the task screen where you’ll be able to see a more detailed display of time estimated and time spent. At the top of the screen on the right side will be a pie chart displaying the percentage of the task completed and the estimated and logged amounts.

Time Logged on Jobs and Contacts

If the task is related to a job or contact, the total amount of time logged for all tasks on this contact or job and the total amount of time estimated will be shown on the pie chart at the top right side of the overview section for the respective contact or job.

Reporting on Time Spent

You can also quickly generate Time Log reports to get a better view of time spent across several tasks, jobs, or contacts.To view the amount of time logged by a user for a specific date range by job or by contact, and the descriptions of each time amount logged, you can use the reporting tool.
